The FAU Cell Biology Division (Department of Biology) is offering

 

A PhD studentship in Plant Cell & Molecular Biology (funded by DFG Graduate School RTG1962).

 

Das Aufgabengebiet umfasst u.a.

Job description:

  • conduct research to characterize molecular mechanisms underlying the “Targeting of proteins that control polar cell growth to distinct plasma membrane domains”:
    • In vivo protein dynamics in living pollen tube cells (advanced light microscopy, FRAP, photo-activation/conversion)
    • identification/characterization of protein targeting domains & interacting factors    (cell & molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics)
    • modeling of protein targeting processes (theoretical biology)
  • participate in theoretical (lectures) & hands-on (lab courses) training provided by the RTG1962
  • work for several weeks in a collaborating top research institution outside of Germany
  • contribute to teaching at all levels of university education

 

Notwendige Qualifikationen:

Necessary qualifications:

  • MSc or University Diploma in Biology (or in a related field)
  • enthusiastic and innovative researcher/teacher
  • ability to work effectively both independently and in a team
  • good communication skills in English (oral & in writing)

Remarks:

The studentship is available starting 1st of April 2017 and is funded (TV-L E13/65%) for three years through the DFG (German Research Foundation) sponsored Research Graduate School “Dynamic Interactions at Biological Membranes” (RTG1962; http://www.biomembranes.org/). This Graduate School represents an interdisciplinary research and career development effort at the interface between biology (cell & molecular), mathematics and physics (experimental & theoretical). Participating PhD students are supervised and mentored by a board of three principal investigators.

The FAU Cell Biology Division offers a dynamic, developing, ambitious, international and supportive working environment embedded within the FAU Department of Biology, a prominent Center of Molecular, Cellular and Development Biology in Germany.
