General information
The campus of the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg is spread over the two cities Erlangen and Nuremberg. The Department Biology is located in the south-east area of Erlangen in a building complex called the “Biologikum”. The labs and offices of the Cell Biology Divison are on the first floor (level 00) in buildings A1 and A2. The division secretary can be found in room 00.370. You may reach the “Biologikum” by car, train or plane.
Coming by car
Coming to Erlangen by car on highway A3/E3, use exit Tennenlohe (exit number 84) and proceed towards Erlangen on the Äußere Nürnbergerstraße. Take the exit after the third bridge and follow the sign “Universität Südgelände” on the Kurt-Schuhmacher-Straße. After turning left at the first traffic light, follow the signs directing you to the “Biologikum”, second street on the left side.
Coming by train
Erlangen can easily be reached by train. A train schedule is available on the website of the Deutsche Bahn AG. Most visitors arrive in Erlangen via Nuremberg. From Nuremberg Central Station (Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof) trains with destination Erlangen depart at least once an hour. The train ride from Nuremberg to Erlangen takes 15 to 20 minutes. You may take a taxi from the train station in Erlangen to the „Biologikum“ (about 15 min). Alternatively, you can take a bus (line 287 or 293) to “Sebaldussiedlung” (last stop). From this bus stop, follow the signs to the „Biologikum“ (5 minute walk).
Coming by plane
Planes arrive at the Nuremberg International Airport about 15 km from the city center of Erlangen. The „Biologikum“ can be reached from the airport within 15 to 20 minutes by taxi. Alternatively, take subway line 2 from the airport to Nuremberg Central Train Station, and continue from there as described above.
